West Elm Newcomer to Birmingham

October 15, 2013

Last week, Birmingham, Alabama got lucky when one of my favorite stores, West Elm opened. Located at The Summit shopping center, the almost 8,000 square foot store opened with the brand’s diverse mix of furniture, home décor, gifts and artist collaborations. The store also features an assortment of local handcrafted products sourced through including one-of-a-kind furniture, lighting, leather goods, and wall art. I want everything in there (and so did my daughter, Leigh)!

Mixing clean lines, natural textures and handcrafted collections from the U.S. and globally, West Elm crates unique, affordable designs for modern living. Headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, the brand introduced its first catalog in 2002 and opened the doors of its first retail location in 2003. The brand’s complete collection of modern furniture and room décor, including modern dinnerware, wall shelves, and modern bedding is available in 54 retail stores in the United States, Canada and Australia and online. West Elm is part of an active community on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram and a member of the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. portfolio of brands.

“We are excited to open our first store in Alabama and support the local handcrafted community by featuring the work of Birmingham artisans in our store,” said Jim Brett, president of West Elm.  “We recently made a two-year commitment to significantly increase the amount of handcrafted products we offer, and to roll out locally crafted assortments in all of our stores worldwide. Birmingham is in the first group of our stores to offer this assortment.”

Thanks to my friends at West Elm and Southern Living magazine for including me for the preview dinner at Birmingham’s  Jones Valley Teaching Farm.

For up to date information see West Elm Birmingham store on Facebook. The store is open Monday-Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm at The Summit shopping center.

Gosh I just love Bham! We made it a stop on our honeymoon earlier thus year because my husband had never been. Now he's a bug fan, too!
