No-Bake Dog Treats: For People Too

August 29, 2012

When Birmingham Magazine asked me for some dog treats for my monthly food column, I wasn’t sure what to do. Honestly, this is not my area of expertise. I contacted our wonderful veterinarian, Andy, and I asked him to name a couple of ingredients which I could use to develop a cookie that would be good for dogs. I created these No-Bake Dog Treats which are great for people too. These came out fabulous, and my dog, Latte, loved every one of them. Note: For overweight dogs, these should be a “splurge” snack.

No-Bake Dog Treats

Prep: 15 minutes
Yield: 12 to 16 servings
Ingredients
1 cup oats
1/2 cup peanut or almond butter
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup granola
Preparation
1. Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl until thoroughly combined. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Remove from the refrigerator and roll into 1-inch balls. Store in an airtight container between wax paper and keep refrigerated for up to 1 week.

Cute dog! What breed(s)? I have a similar looking "mystery" dog, except mine is chocolate colored. Can't wait to try your recipe.

Don't use granola with raisins, as they are toxic for dogs.
